The Guyana Foundation (UK) are in the latter stages of their Guyana tour and went down to Everest Masters in their latest cricket match on Friday.
The visitors comprising of doctors, mentors and members of civil society who reside in England are in Guyana to pass on positive messages through the spoken word and brochures. They have engaged the locals in various sporting activities including pools, dart and cricket where they speak to their opponents and spectators on alternate life-styles.
In their game against Everest Masters at the home of Everest at Camp road, the visitors made 189 for 8 from their 30 overs after having first strike. Navindra Singh played wonderfully well for 82 while Navin Persaud chipped in with 38 and Patrick Khan 22.
The home side’s bowling was led by former Guyana First Class player Rohan Sarjoo who took 3 for 22. Also on the ball were Johnny Azeez with 2 for 31 and Rakesh Gangaram 2 for 17 for Everest Masters who then raced to 192 for 1 for the easy nine-wicket win.
Essequibo boy, Basil Persaud rolled back the years with an attractive unbeaten century hitting 13 fours and two sixes to finish on 101 not out. Persaud was well supported by former West Indies U-19 player Hemraj Garbarran with 57 not out (7×4; 2×6).
Coordinator of Guyana Foundation (UK), Krish Nath presented Basil Persaud with a medal for being Man of the Match while his side also presented their hosts with a plaque in honor of former life member of the club David Selochan.
In turn, Everest presented UK team with a plaque also in recognition of their visit to Everest Cricket Club.
