A drug-eradication exercise undertaken by the Police on Tuesday has led to the discovery and destruction of at least 200 marijuana plants at Onderneeming backlands on the Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Ranks of the Guyana Police Force acted on information received, which led to the discovery of a plot of land measuring 40 feet by 50 feet on which were growing about 200 plants, suspected to be marijuana, ranging in height from two feet to three feet. A makeshift tent was also found, as were water cans and rakes.
The area was marked by its location, and was photographed, while the marijuana plants, cans, and tent were destroyed by fire. Seven sample plants were extracted for testing by crime scene ranks.
The estimated weight of the plants destroyed has been given as approximately 220 kg. No arrest was made, but Police are continuing their investigation. (G12)
