Police probing murder at Baramita

A 19-year-old motorcyclist is now nursing injuries after he was involved in an accident at Four Miles Potaro Road, Bartica, with a Mayor and Town Council vehicle.
Reports are the accident occurred at about 18:20h on Tuesday. According to Police, pick-up PWW 7126 was proceeding north along the western side of the Four Miles, Potaro Road while the motor Jeep, PTT 8073, was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road, followed by the motorcycle. Pick-up PWW 7126 is owned by the Mayor and Town Council of Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and was being driven by Mayor Gifford Marshall.
According to the driver of Jeep PTT 8073, he was blinded by the light of the pick-up that was driven by Mayor Marshall, and as such he slowed and felt an impact to the rear of his vehicle. As a result of the collision, the motorcycle reportedly lost control and collided with the right side of the pick-up (PWW 7126). The teen motorcyclist then fell onto the roadway, and received injuries about his body.
He was picked up by the driver of the jeep and taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital where he was admitted.
Police on Saturday said that breathalyser tests were conducted on the drivers and they were all found to be below the prescribed limit of alcohol. The Mayor and the driver of the jeep have since been released on self-bail, pending investigation. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
