One day after a suspected bandit was shot and killed during a foiled robbery, the Police are soliciting the assistance of the public to positively identify him.
The deceased was shot at least twice to the neck by a licensed firearm holder as he and another accomplice were attempting to gain entry into the man’s Lot 724 5th Avenue, Diamond, East Bank Demerara home, in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and was clad in a three-quarter pair of pants and a black armless vest.
His accomplice was later arrested by Police ranks who responded to the report. He has been identified as a 27-year-old man from West Ruimveldt, Georgetown. He is assisting Police in their investigations.
Based on reported received, the 38-year-old miner was awoken by a loud noise emanating from the lower flat of his house, and upon investigating, he saw two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. They were attempting to gain entry into the house through a door.
He immediately raised an alarm and thereafter discharged his firearm in the direction of the two men. One of them reportedly fell to the ground while the other who was carrying the firearm managed to scale the fenced yard and escaped. He was however arrested shortly after.
