Seven persons are now in Police custody after they were found in possession of a quantity of marijuana in two separate incidents on Thursday and Sunday last.
Based on reports received, on Thursday, Police acting on information intercepted a lorry – GVV 9756 – in front of the Kurupukari Outpost, in Lethem, and requested to conduct a search.

During the search, several parcels containing over 10 kilograms of ganja were found.
As a result, the 39-year-old truck driver and his 41-year-old porter, who hail from Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), and North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, respectively, were immediately taken into custody.
Meanwhile, during a roadblock in front of the Beterverwagting Police Station, East Coast Demerara (ECD), on Sunday last, a motor car with five males was stopped and searched during which a haversack containing over 1 kilogram of cannabis was found in the trunk.

The men were arrested but were later released on bail after the 72-hour detention period expired. The seven men are expected to make their court appearance in the new week.
