Meanwhile, ranks in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) are on the hunt for two suspects who tossed an illegal firearm onto the roadway in a bid to escape Police on patrol duty.
According to reports, around 09:30h on Tuesday, ranks on a motorcycle were patrolling on Vlissengen Road when they observed the suspects proceeding in front of them on a CG motorcycle that was missing the rear registration number plate.
The ranks ordered the suspects to stop, but instead of so doing so, the pillion rider quickly took out a firearm from his waist and tossed it onto the parapet before the rider sped away.
The weapon was retrieved and discovered to be a .380 pistol loaded with five live rounds. Subsequent attempts by the ranks to apprehend the suspects were futile. The weapon and ammunition have since been lodged, as investigations are ongoing.
Also on Tuesday, ranks of a Police mobile patrol at 58 Miles Mabura, Upper Demerara River, stopped and searched a motor car and its occupants. During the search, one of the occupants was found with a parcel containing 250 grams of cannabis, concealed on his person. The 54-year-old miner, who hails from Victory Valley, Linden, was arrested and taken into Police custody. He is expected to be charged soon.
