Two Lance Corporals attached to Alberttown Police Station were each granted ,000 bail on a joint charge of corrupt transaction when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Selvyn Elkhana, 38, of West Bank Demerara (WBD) and Dwayne Marshall, 37, of Linden, Region 10, both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It was alleged that on August 19, 2016 at Church Street, Alberttown, they corruptly obtained from Deonarine Dowlataram ,000 as a reward for failing to pursue an assault charge against the said person. Elkhana, who was represented by Attorney Chandrawatie Persaud who informed the court her client has been serving the Guyana Police Force for the past 22 years with an exemplary record. She added that he was a single parent.
The case will continue on October 26.
