Power lifters head to Critchlow Labour College

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) will be hosting the Annual Claude Charles Memorial Intermediate/Masters Powerlifting Competition on Sunday June 5, 2016 at the Critchlow Labour College.

Fitness giant, Buddys Gym has lent their support to this event along with sports Masseuse Kathleen Paul of Crown Street, Queenstown. Buddy’s Gym has also shown interest in continued collaborations with the GAPLF with regard to fitness events and also being the gym of Guyana’s national team which is currently preparing to represent the GAPLF and Guyana at the 14th Annual IPF/NAPF North American Regional Powerlifting Championships and the 9th IPF/NAPF Caribbean Regional Championships on August 14-19, 2016 in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.

Registration has been completed and patrons can look forward to an action packed day of lifting from Guyana’s veteran lifters in the Masters Category and Upcoming Strongmen and Strongwomen in the Intermediate Category.

Masters such as Winston “Little Master” Stoby, Farouk Abdool and “Big” John Edwards are just a few of those set to be participating. In the Intermediate Division, spectators can look forward to a keenly contested battle between Sub Junior power house Romario Gonsalves of Life Gym and Novices Best lifter Arif Immamdeen of Total Fitness Gym in Berbice. Carlos Peterson the best lifter in the Raw (Unequipped) Category is expected to repeat and likely better his previous performance. On the distaff side, the women will also look to impress, as much is expected of veteran body builder NadinaTaharally of Interline Fitness, Lisa Oudit and Novices Female Best Lifter, Melissa Tucker of RIP HIT Fitness.

Athletes are reminded that weigh-in and equipment inspection will commence at 7:00 hrs and conclude at 9:00 hrs and there will be no late weigh-ins. This is to cater for a 10:30 hrs competition start. Spectators too are reminded that the venue is the Critchlow Labour College and admission is $500. Food and drinks will be on sale and there will be novelty events where patrons can win prizes compliments of Fitness Express, the Main sponsor of the Event.
