PPP dominates WCD LGE 2018 nominations

The Opposition People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) dominated the Local Government Elections (LGE) nominations on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD).
Not even an hour-long downpour dissuaded the PPP/C supporters from taking to the streets with banners, flags and their traditional party colour – red marching through the streets in their Local Authority Areas lobby for support for the upcoming Elections.
Even though slow, the process went along smoothly and without any major hiccups. Lists were presented to the various Guyana Elections Commissions (GECOM) officials by 10:00h and were completely vetted and posted for the public

Tuschen/Uitvlugt
Secretary of the PPP/C Tuschen/Uitvlugt contesting group is confident that his party will prove victorious at the LGE on the entire West Coast come November 12.
According to Beshpatty, “generally, we feel that having submitted the lists and with the support which we would’ve had today, we feel very optimistic that we would be winning in the constituencies by a landslide victory”.
As such, the party is calling for it members to rally around them in order for victory to be attained.
Guyana Times spoke with a number of the PPP/C candidates who were all ready for election day.
Ranzan Alli, a Tuschen/Uitvlugt constituency seven candidate, said the West Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) areas are calling for support in order for developments to be “finally” undertaken.

Zeelugt
Another PPP/C candidate, Poornadai Sukhu said her constituency of Zeelugt, WCD, is one that is plagued with crime which is not being addressed; and as such, she needs to see change. This prompted her to take up the challenge and to support her party during this election.
Dinesh Prashad called for the support of residents of constituency eight, urging them to take up the mantle and fight for the change that they want to see by voting.
The PPP’s list of candidates to contest the LGE was posted by GECOM after it was examined, with 10 candidates vying on behalf of that Party for said Tuschen/Uitvlugt District.
However, only one of three candidates representing constituencies six, seven and 10 spoke with Guyana Times and decried the harsh conditions in his area which

These lists will be examined by the Returning Officers to determine whether they were properly submitted in accordance with the relevant laws. If the list is considered defective, the representative/deputy representative will be notified by the Returning Officer.
If the party, group or individual is not satisfied with the reasons provided by the Returning Officer, they can file an appeal against refusal of approval no later than the 45th day before Election Day to a Magistrate of the magisterial district. (Kizzy Colman)
