One day after 25-year-old Anthony Lowe succumbed to the injuries he sustained as a result of a collapsed building at Banks DIH, his pregnant wife remains devastated and is now contemplating her next move as a widow.

Dead: Anthony Lowe

The aggrieved mother to be, Ketitia Waith, told Guyana Times that Lowe was the sole breadwinner of the family, while noting that with a baby on the way, the future is looking very bleak.
The woman recalled that on the day in question, she was at home when she received the devasting news.
“I was at home with his children, and his mom called me and said that if I heard from Anthony or if he called me, and I said no, I didn’t get any phone call from him and then she told me that a relative called she and tell her that the building they were working at caved in and she is going down,” she stated.
She recounted calling a close friend of her now dead husband to enquire but was told that he was not at the same worksite but promised to travel to the scene to check on him.

However, she rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was told by doctors that her husband’s face was severely damaged and that there is a “50/50 chance” he might survive.
The now dead man was admitted in an unconscious state to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and never regained consciousness. He had suffered severe injuries to his brain and lungs. However, hospital sources confirmed that he died around 08:00h on Thursday.
“The doctor called the family and asked to meet. When we go, they said that he had a lot of damage to his head, his skull crack and that some part of his brains to function and other stuff is damaged. His lungs bore and that he hands broken,” the distressed wife explained.
She described her husband as a “loving” person who would ensure that he takes care of his children.
“He never argues, fight or anything. He used to treat his children very well; ensure that they get what they want,” the woman said as tears started to trickle down her cheeks. She noted that he will be missed tremendously.
He leaves to mourn his wife, four children, parents and siblings.
Lowe is the second construction worker who died following the incident, which occurred around 13:00h on July 8. The other person was Jagmohan Bissessar, 61, of La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara (WBD). He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital on the day the incident took place.
