President to deliver feature remarks at RHTY&SC awards
– Mahadeo and Campbelle are top cricketers of the year
Plans for the successful hosting of the 26th annual awards ceremony of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) are well on stream with several major sponsors coming on board.
Club Patron President David Granger has confirmed his participation as the guest speaker, while veteran cricketer Khemraj Mahadeo and West Indies female player Shemaine Campbelle have been confirmed as the Male and Female Cricketer-of-the-Year respectively.
The award ceremony would be held at the St Francis Community Developers head office and would entail the honouring of over 40 cricketers and club officials. The club would also be honouring outstanding teachers form the Lower Corentyne district, retired teachers from Regions Five and Six and five role model police officers under its Tribute to Heroes programme.
The club would also be paying tribute to its immediate past Patron, Beverly Harper, by awarding her the RHTY&SC’s highest award – The Dolphin Award of Excellence- while donations would be made to several schools.
Meanwhile, the club’s plans for the hosting of the award ceremony this Sunday received major boosts from several donors.
Insurance company, North American Life Insurance Company Limited (Nalico), donated a cartoon of 25 trophies, while Impressions, National Milling Company, Ricks and Sari Agro Industries, National Sports Commission, Shameer Baksh, Karen Raphael, Bakewell, Woodpecker Sports, Jumbo Jet, New GPC Inc., Joseph Lewis, Mings Products Limited, The Gift Centre, John Lewis Styles, Paul Persaud, Bounty Farm Limited, Royal Jewel House, Dr Phillip DaSilva have all made contributions.
Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who is heading the Planning Committee for the award ceremony, stated that all plans are in place and expressed gratitude to all the donors for their continued confidence in the organisation.
This year’s ceremony would be a smaller one when compared to the last 15 years as management has taken a decision to greatly reduce the prize package from $2.5 million to about $1 million. This is to allow the club to invest more into its Cricket Development Programme for youths between the ages of eight to 15 years and its Berbice-wide ‘Say No to Drugs, Suicide and Crime’ programme.
The club during the programme would also be announcing plans for an ambitious countywide Traffic Education Campaign that would take school children and drivers in an effort to reduce the death rate on the roads.
