Thirty-three-year-old Ricardo De France, of Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, was late last week sentenced to eight weeks community service for stealing one motor vehicle’s rearview mirror and cap, belonging to Winston Cosbert at Savage Street, Georgetown.

his car on Savage Street and went to his office at the Guyana Post Office building.
The prosecution disclosed that after 10:00h, Cosbert checked on his car and discovered the items missing. Checks were made with the defendant who worked on mirrors and the items were recovered. When De France appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne McLennan, he admitted to his wrongdoing, telling the court that he was sorry for committing such acts. “There’s no good reason to justify stealing anything – mirror or candy. I do apologise and I’m asking the court to be lenient,” De France said last week.
After hearing his remarks, Magistrate McLennan ordered that he complete his eight-week community service stint at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court or spend eight weeks in prison.
On Wednesday afternoon, the self-confessed mirror thief commenced his community service.
