‘Quiet Storm’ highlights opening night

“Greatest of the Streets” Linden Championships…

The highly anticipated ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Linden Championships commenced on Wednesday evening at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac (MMT) with six matches being contested, in which former champions Dave & Celina’s All-Stars, Amelia’s Ward Russians, and NK Ballers suffered losses.
Presidential defeated Dave & Celina’s 1-0, Runic Velloza finding the back of the net in the fifth minute. From there on, Presidential tightened their defense, and the score remained unchanged until full time.
The action intensified with Quiet Storm demolishing Amelia’s Ward Russians 4-0. Mark Richards recorded a hat-trick, scoring his first goal in the first minute, before later going on to score a ‘Guinness Goal’ (a goal scored in the final three minutes of regulation time counts as two) in the 19th minute to take the score to 3-0.
A few minutes later, Amelia’s Ward recorded an own goal to give Quiet Storm the victory.
In the other fixture, Assassa Ballers defeated NK Ballers 2-0, thanks to a Devon Scott goal [GG] in the 19th minute.
Barsenal managed to put down Retrieve Unknowns 2-1, thanks to Carlon Hinds and Keshawn Dey scoring in the first and ninth minutes respectively.
Apart from Glendon Boodhoo scoring for the Retrieve Unknowns in the sixth minute, no other Retrieve player could contribute.
Culminating the evening of play, Capital Storm defeated Amazings 2-0 through an Allan Reece GG in the 18th minute, while Coomacka overpowered Haynes Hitters for a 2-1 win on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended with both teams goalless.
Play will resume on May 1 at the MMT with Quiet Storm battling Haynes Hitters at 19:30hrs, while Capital Storm will duke it out with Assassa Ballers at 20:00 hrs. NK Ballers will then take on Amazings from 20:30 hrs, as Wisroc will attempt to over throw Dave & Celina’s All-Stars from 21:00hrs. Swag Entertainment will engage Presidential at 21:30hrs, and Silver Bullets will take on High Rollers in the final match, from 22:00hrs.
The tournament is being contested in an initial round-robin format featuring four groups of four teams. Upon conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers will advance to the knockout round.
Group ‘A’ comprises of Assassa Ballers, Amazings, NK Ballers and Capital Storm. Group ‘B’ features Amelia’s Ward Russians, Quiet Storm, Coomacka ‘B’ and Haynes Hitters; while Group ‘C’ consists of Silver Bullets, High Rollers, Retrieve Unknowns and Barsenal. Swag Entertainment, Dave & Celina’s All-Stars, Presidential, and Wisroc make up Group ‘D’.
The other dates for play are May 3, 10 and 17, with the finals scheduled for May 24.
