Early-morning rainfall across the Ancient County of Berbice forced another cancellation of the Port Mourant Turf Club horse-race meet.
On the eve of the event, all systems were in place for the race with sunshine hitting the track for most parts of Saturday.
However, the weather changed and forced the cancellation as the track was deemed unsafe for racing.

“Due to the exceptionally-heavy rainfall experienced over the past 12 hours, the track conditions have deteriorated to a level deemed unsafe for racing. After careful assessment, the decision has been made to cancel today’s scheduled horse race.
“This decision has not been taken lightly. The safety and well-being of all participants remain our highest priority. Protecting the lives and limbs of jockeys, handlers, and support staff is paramount, and equally, we are committed to ensuring the welfare and safety of the horses. The current conditions present an unacceptable risk of injury, and proceeding would be inconsistent with responsible and humane racing standards,” the organizers posted.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all stakeholders and look forward to rescheduling under safer conditions.”
