Rain forces washout of Guyana’s U19 opener

Guyana’s opening match in the 2026 CWI Rising Stars Women’s Under-19 Championship was washed out without a ball being bowled yesterday, as rain disrupted the opening round of the regional youth competition.
Guyana Under-19 Women were scheduled to face Barbados Under-19 Women , but persistent rain prevented play from getting underway, leaving both teams to share the points.
The championship nevertheless produced action at two other venues, although rain also intervened in the contest between the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands at the Liberta Sports Club.
The Leeward Islands Under-19 Women secured a narrow one-run victory over the Windward Islands under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
Batting first after being sent in, the Leeward Islands posted 118 for eight from their allotted 20 overs, with opener Zara Skerritt anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 36 from 52 balls, including two fours.

Captain Aaliyah Weekes contributed 14, while Jaeda Tyrell led the Windward Islands bowling attack with three wickets for 21 runs from her four overs.
The Windward Islands appeared to be making steady progress in their chase, reaching 50 for two, with Tyrell unbeaten on 31 from 39 balls, before rain brought the contest to an early end.
The DLS calculations handed the Leeward Islands a one-run victory.
At the other venue, Trinidad and Tobago Under-19 Women produced the most emphatic result of the opening round, defeating Jamaica Under-19 Women by eight wickets at the Bethesda Sports Ground.
Jamaica, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, struggled against a disciplined Trinidad and Tobago attack and were bowled out for just 39 in 11.5 overs.
Teandra Morgan was Jamaica’s only batter to reach double figures, making 14.
Samara Ramnath was the chief destroyer with an outstanding four for eight, while Brianna Harricharan claimed three wickets to further undermine the Jamaican innings.
Trinidad and Tobago needed little time to wrap up the run chase, reaching 42 for two in just 7.2 overs. Harricharan completed a fine all-round performance by remaining unbeaten on 14.
The second round of matches is scheduled for today, with Guyana set to face Trinidad and Tobago, while Barbados will take on the Windward Islands and the Leeward Islands will meet Jamaica.
