The Beverage giants continued their strong and consistent support towards sports development in Guyana by contributing to the international race meet under their Rainforest Water and Powerade sports drink brands.
The competition is named in honour of Guyana’s most decorated female athlete, Aliann Pompey who won Commonwealth Games Gold and Silver medals and represented Guyana on four separate occasions at the Olympics.
Pompey was on hand to receive the sponsorship cheque from Banks DIH Limited Brand Manager Clive Pellew during a simple ceremony at the company’s head office at Thirst Park.
The former international star expressed appreciation to Banks DIH for being a sponsor of the meet while Pellew said Banks DIH is extremely excited to be a sponsor of the Meet and urged fans to support the event which starts at 15:00 hours.
Athletes from Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Haiti, Ireland, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St Vincent, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States of America and the US Virgin Islands are expected in Guyana tomorrow June 17.
The 15 events Meet will showcase Guyana’s athletic stars as well as a lineup of international runners who are in their final preparation for the Rio Olympic Games in neighbouring Brazil.
