Police in ‘D’ Division (West Bank Demerara/East Bank Essequibo) have arrested the suspect who allegedly raped a 28-year-old Zeelught, East Bank Essequibo, woman and bit her eyelid off during the act last weekend. 
The 20-year-old suspect of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, who has been on the run since the incident, was arrested at about 10:00h on Saturday in the Leonora backlands, WCD.
Guyana Times was told that the man was hiding there for the past week and the Police were recently tipped off about his location.
According to Police reports, the arrest was made possible with the cooperation of citizens during a sting operation launched by the Police in West Coast Demerara.
It was reported that around 23:00h on Saturday last, the mother of four had left home for work and was walking through an alleyway to gain access to the main road, when the suspect emerged from the bushes and attacked her. He grabbed and dragged her into the bushes where he raped her. While committing the act, he bit off her eyelid in an attempt to keep her quiet. He also threatened to take her life if she raised an alarm.
After he was done, the young man reportedly fled the scene, leaving his victim behind. Nevertheless, the matter was reported to the Police. The suspect is expected to be charged and placed before the courts later this week.
