As Guyana’s Golden Jubilee celebrations approach, Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice) Councillor Charles Sampson has reiterated his call for buildings to be made “differently-abled friendly”.
Sampson, who is also Head of the Region’s Commemoration Committee, recently noted buildings in Linden were not built to accommodate those of the society who are differently abled.
As such, he said his committee is advocating for this to be made possible.
“The work of the Commemoration Committee is very critical, this is our Golden Jubilee year… there’s a recommendation that speaks to buildings in that from time to time (such buildings) are not friendly to differently-abled people,” he declared.
Sampson stated that there is a recommendation for buildings such as the Linden Concert Hall and School (LICHAS), in the event of the execution of any reconstruction works, should be made suitable for differently-abled people.
