Region 10 students to benefit from “Feeding Angels” initiative

Primary and secondary school students in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) are expected to benefit from a school hot meal feeding programme, organised through the Region’s People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) office.
According to the PNCR Region 10 Chairman Deron Adams, who is presently seeking additional sponsorship for the programme, the initiative will target students who encounter financial difficulties and those considered disadvantaged.
The feeding programme is expected to commence on February 5 at the PNCR party office at Mackenzie, Linden and will be conducted on Mondays and Fridays.
“The brain needs food to learn. With the help of sponsors, the PNCR Region 10 Committee is trying to emphasise the importance of a good and healthy meal,” Adams noted.
“Since we are fully aware of the many difficult problems pupils of primary and secondary schools encounter in their daily life, we have established a feeding programme for those who need it most. The feeding programme reaches out to pupils who encounter daily financial problems, or those from particularly disadvantaged backgrounds.
We are aware that single-parent families struggle really hard to get enough income to provide for their children hence this initiative is timely,” he continued, while he stressed the need for the help of sponsors.
He added that in the future, a database would be created after careful analysis of those who may need additional assistance via the outreach programme, as he welcomed sponsors to partner with the Committee to support the initiative.
