Region 2 man latest COVID-19 death

…24 new cases detected

A 20-year-old fully vaccinated man of Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is the country’s latest COVID-19 death, the Health Ministry reported on Sunday.
He died on July 1.
With this additional death, the COVID-19 death toll now stands at 1256. Sunday’s dashboard showed that 24 new cases were recorded within the last 24 hours, taking the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic in March 2020 to 67,615.
One case was recorded in Region One (Barima-Waini); four in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and 19 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
There are currently two persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 in institutional isolation, and 837 in home isolation. Another two individuals are in institutional quarantine.
A total of 31,037 males and 36,578 females have tested positive since the pandemic started here. Meanwhile, 65,491 persons have completely recovered from the virus.
Guyana has conducted 661,833 COVID-19 tests to date.
Authorities are urging the public to continue observing all COVID-19 preventative measures, particularly masking in public, social distancing and frequent hand washing and sanitising.
Everyone five years and older is encouraged to get vaccinated against the deadly virus. Those who have already taken their primary vaccines are urged to get a booster dose.

As of Sunday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported 545,226,550 confirmed cases globally along with 6,334,728 deaths.
In the Region of the Americas, that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 162,968,878 while the death toll has climbed to 2,761,824. (G1)
