During her remarks, Minister Manickchand noted that Government is committed to levelling the oil revenue, so that everyone will benefit, including the educational sector.

“This is an exciting time to be in Guyana so I ask you to do that consciously. Not just be children living, look at how your communities are developing, look at how your country is developing, listen to people around you, pay attention to how things are changing, in availability, in prices. We are embarking on a new economy where we should be seeing far more income because of our natural resources…”, she said.
She posited that parents and teachers should be given credit for this year’s high-performance rate, since there was an increase of parent and child engagement, along with teachers’ drive. She highlighted that “it takes a village to raise a child” as she stressed the importance of support systems in children.
Meanwhile, Region Three Chamber of Commerce Vice President Richard Sukhdeo said that schools and communities are one unit and partnership with all sectors of the community is essential to helping children reach their maximum potential.
The six students were Dhanesh Tularam, Salmah Bacchus, Yuki Clarke, Charisma Etwaroo, Fiaz Khan and Janai Shewram. In an interview with Guyana Times, Janai Shewram encouraged upcoming NGSA candidates that working hard is very important in achieving their success. She achieved 519 marks which secured her a spot at Queen’s College. (G9)
