Region Two agriculture sector boosted with 2 new tractors

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall on Tuesday handed over two new 80 horsepower John Deere tractors to Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) Regional Administration to assist with its agricultural programmes.
At a simple ceremony held at the Regional Democratic Council’s (RDC) compound, Dharamlall said the $12 million tractors are the latest effort by regional officials to boost the lives of rice farmers in Pomeroon-Supenaam.
The Local Government and Regional Development Minister noted that the tractors were purchased under the Region’s Capital Budget.

He handed over the keys to the brand-new tractors to Regional Chairperson, Vilma De Silva and urged her to ensure that it is used in productive activities that can benefit the region and its farmers.
Minister Dharamlall pointed out that the tractors will especially benefit rice farmers and will be used to rehabilitate access dams leading to rice lands.
Meanwhile, De Silva stated that the handing over of the tractors is timely since Region Two was in need of the machinery. She was particularly pleased that the region has received the machines at a perfect time.
“With two new tractors in our region, Region Two will be boosted at a higher capacity in terms of its agriculture sector. They will assist farmers, especially rice farmers, and make their lives easier. We will make sure that the tractors are cared for and maintained to ensure longevity,” De Silva said.
