The magazine is aimed at highlighting the destinations that would be of interest to visitors, both domestic and international.
Editor of the magazine, Donald Sinclair, who is also a director of the Tourism Department, noted that the magazine showcases regional tourism throughout the ten administrative regions of Guyana.
“Last year each administrative region formed a Regional Sub-Committee. The whole idea behind imitative was to spread the planning of tourism to the ten Administrative Regions. Thereby involving more persons, involving more stakeholders in tourism planning, so tourism planning would not only be a top-down thing but something that is across the board,” Sinclair added.
He further noted that the involvement of all ten regions will increase the level of tourism awareness for persons who are visiting Guyana.
President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana, Mitra Ramkumar spoke to the sustainable tourism concept showcased in the magazine.
“I know most Guyanese are not even aware that these places exist for example the kissing rock in Region One. There is a lot to be read about. I think this regional magazine also focuses a lot on domestic tourism and I believe our people should be encouraged to do domestic tourism to go out into the Regions and experience what we have as a country,” Ramkumar noted.
Publisher Oliver Insanlly in his remarks stated that the magazine raises the bar for local content development.
In 2019, Guyana garnered worldwide recognition within the tourism industry; for its leadership in sustainable destination management and development.
Guyana was also recognised as the world’s #1 “Best of Ecotourism” destination in the world among others.
