The ice-pick also fell onto the roadway in the process. The incident was videoed and was posted on social media. The video shows the suspect on the concrete pavement while public-spirited individuals prevented him from escaping.
When contacted by this publication on Friday, Police Commander of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) Sub-division A (Georgetown), Assistant Police Commissioner Edgar Thomas stated that he was unaware of the details of the incident.
He explained that he was contacted by the media concerning the matter, but after checking with the Police stations in his Division, no official report had been lodged.
According to Commander Thomas, his ranks are in the process of investigating the incident, although, presently, their only source of information is the video recording being shared on social media.
He noted that there is a possibility that persons would have reported the incident to the City Constabulary instead of visiting a Police station since the incident occurred near City Hall.
