Republic Bank CPL: “Confident” Warriors looking to maximise home leg

With four wins on the trot and a healthy run rate, the Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) remain the only unbeaten team in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Ahead of their first home leg contest on Friday, September 4, against the Jamaica Kingsmen, GAW sprang into action at their first training session on home soil this season on Wednesday.
There, power-hitting batsman and local boy Quentin Sampson spoke of their perfect start on the road.
“It’s always a pleasure to come home after starting your campaign on a high note. As you can see, we’re at four out of four; it’s a good feeling, coming home without losing a game. It’s a great start for us,” Sampson told Guyana Times Sport.
Sampson went on to tell this publication about the team’s confidence, especially now, with the home crowd behind them.
The batsman shared, “The confidence – the boys are pretty much pumped. Even now, being home, things would be much better. We have the home crowd, the advantage. So, I think we’re up for the challenge… it’s just another opportunity to continue playing good cricket. You know, we’ve been doing good as a team so far; with the crowd backing us, [it] gives us an additional driving force to go hard at the game,” he further noted.
The Amazon Warriors are just two or three wins away from securing a playoff spot, which Sampson highlighted is important to secure while on their home leg.
Sampson opined, “Before we leave home, we just want to secure those points, you know, so that we don’t have to do the hard work in the back end to catch up. So, going with the good start that we already have, I think that would be great initiative for us.”
On a personal note, Sampson divulged how much he is enjoying his new spot in the Warriors’ middle order.
He divulged to the Guyana Times Sport, “Well, batting in the middle right now, that’s the kind of position I always bat in. Coming up from junior cricket, that’s the kind of spot I always be. So, it’s just simple for me; I feel more confident ‘cause opening batting is not as easy as people think it is.”
“So, I feel like it is my role, and I just want to grasp it.”
Laughing as he recollected his recent banter with Shimron Hetmyer, Sampson added, “I just love to bat with Hetty. Hetty just makes everything so simple and gives you a lot of encouragement. So, yeah, it’s just a fun time with me and him at the crease.”
Friday’s battle between GAW and Kingsmen is set to bowl off at 19:00h local time.
