Resaul, Fraser reach mixed double final after stunning upset

Probably the biggest shocker within the tennis fraternity for 2016, Heimraj Resaul and Kalyca Fraser stunned Mark McDonald and Nicola Ramdyhan in straight sets in their mixed doubles open semifinal bout of the Trophy Stall Tennis Doubles Tournament.
The tennis fans, players, parents and officials who were present at the National Racquet Centre on Monday were in for a treat as the pairs executed skill, intensity and passion on a day that was mostly good for the sport.

Ramdyhan, who was superb for most of the year and McDonald were favourites to win the clash but instead it was the accurate serves of Resaul and the rallies of Fraser that won the latter the match. They manage the win inside two sets that ended 6-1, 7-5.
Resaul and Fraser will now have to focus on the final of the mixed doubles against powerhouse Anthony Downes and Afruica Gentle which is set for Saturday. They will once again start as underdogs.
Meanwhile, Downes and Gentle completed an easy victory in their semifinal as they defeated Jeremiah Kalekyezi and A. Chung 6-1 6-2.
All other matches that were scheduled for Monday were postponed due to rain late in the afternoon and the evening.
On Sunday Resaul was also in ripping form as he and his partner Jordan Beaton crushed O. Coggins and S. Bailey in the semifinals of the men’s open doubles. Resaul and Beaton will meet with Anthony Downes and Jason Andrews, who were tested in their semifinal against McDonald and Ronald Murray in a match that ended 6-4 in two sets.
National coach Shelly Daly Ramdyhan and Nicola Ramdyhan in a mother and daughter show defeated A. Chung and M. Subryan 6-0 6-3 to advance to the final of the ladies’ open doubles.
In quarterfinals on Saturday the following are the results; A. Chung/ M. Subryan defeated D. Bharat/ K. Richmond 7-5, 4-6 6-3, Andre Downes/J. Andrews defeated P. Squires/ J. DeJonge 6-1 6-1, Shauna Gentle/Fiona Bushell defeated Kalyca Fraser/Ciara Pooran 6-3 6-3, Mark McDonald/Nicola Ramdyhan defeated R. Bostwick/Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan 7-6 (7-3) 7-5, Heimraj Resaul/K. Fraser defeated J. Beaton/Ciara Pooran 6-1 6-4, Afruica Gentle/C. Campbell defeated A. Roberts/D. Sandbeharry by walk over.
In upcoming fixtures for today (Wednesday) there will be action men’s over 35 doubles at Le Ressouvenir tennis court from 19:00h and Thursday the mixed doubles category will conclude with the final at Harry Panday court from 19:00h.
