Residents furious at overflowing sewerage in Queenstown

Residents of Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown, are furious at the unsanitary condition in which they have been forced to live for the past two weeks.
Based on reports reaching Guyana Times, several areas are flooded and, in some cases, there is an overflow of sewerage, thus resulting in a stench.

Although reports were made to the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI), no one has visited the area to assess the situation. The residents were later told that the water cannot recede as it should due to a blockage in the drainage system.
Not getting any assistance from the GWI, the residents contacted a private company to look into the matter. One resident stated that the passageway leading to her home is filled with sewerage water that is infested with flies and mosquitos.
This, she noted, is not healthy especially with the children home from school. As such, she is calling on the relevant authorities to address the situation as soon as possible before it gets worst. Attempts to get a comment from an official from GWI proved futile.
