Dear Editor,
As Hindus prepare to observe Diwali on October 19, the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha is calling on persons to respect the sacred festival of lights. President of the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, Dr Vindhya Vasini Persaud is asking promoters and companies to desist from associating Diwali with activities involving alcohol. “We are, once again, asking all to respect our festivals and to desist from linking these types of activities with our Hindu observances.” The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha condemns the use of Diwali to promote activities which are alien to the sanctity of this festival, which is of deep religious significance to the Hindu Community. The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha has always taken a strong position against the use of our festivals in conjunction with alcohol and things alien to the sacredness of those observances and will continue to do so.
Sincerely,
Guyana Hindu
