Restaurant employee slapped with fraud charge

Uretha Persaud of Lot 8 Princes Street Lodge, Georgetown on Monday appeared before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer a fraud charge detailing that on October 19, 2018, at David Rose Street in South Ruimveldt Georgetown, while being a clerk at Royal Castle, she fraudulently embezzled $2,200.
According to the facts presented to the court, the defendant was seen removing a sum of money while at the point of sale. She was approached by another employee, who told her what she had observed, and a search conducted on the person of the defendant unearthed the sum of $2,200 in the pants waist of the defendant. The matter was reported, and the defendant was charged.
Persaud denied the charge, and Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris did not object to her being placed on bail.
Magistrate Latchman has placed Persaud on $20,000 bail. The case will continue on October 24.
