RHTY&SC to hold 2020 Annual Awards Ceremony in early May

−reduced ceremony planned,
−Hand-in-Hand gives boost

The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) MS, has planned its 2020 Awards Ceremony for early May. It is expected to be a greatly reduced affair because of the ongoing political situation and the presence of the coronavirus pandemic, but already, a donation of seven trophies has been received from the Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company in regard to this staging.

Secretary/CEO of the RHTY&SC, Hilbert Foster, having rationalized why a much smaller awards ceremony will be held this year, explained that only club members would be present at the ceremony, and just over a million dollars’ worth of trophies and prizes will be distributed, instead of the usual $3 million.
Because of the Public Health Ministry’s cautionary statements regarding the pandemic, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) would not be hosting any cricket this weekend, as had been planned, because it intends to play its part in this national effort.
Foster and his BCB team would nevertheless continue working tirelessly behind the scenes to develop Berbice cricket, and as soon as it is possible for play to resume, the two under-15 tournaments, the under-21 tournament, the two- day first division, NBS 40-over, UCCA 20/20, Friends of New Amsterdam, and the Asphalt 100 balls tournaments would be completed.
The BCB is regrettably forced to cut back the amount of competitions this year to 18, instead of the 25 planned; but plans are still ongoing to host its countywide coaching programme, its cricket academy in July, and its Annual Cricket Awards Ceremony, among other off-field activities.
Distribution of score books and youth information booklets would also continue during this period. In fact, the RHTY&SC last week donated 20 scorebooks to the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) as part of its cricket development programme.
The BCB’s offices would remain closed until the public health situation improves as both of its staff members are in the high-risk age group.
The BCB is exhorting clubs to be very careful with their training sessions, and to follow as much as possible the guidelines of the Public Health Ministry. Further, the BCB is urging all Berbicians to work together to get past this worrying situation.
