Mashramani is the name given to the annual celebration held to commemorate Guyana’s gaining its Republican status. Republic Day is usually celebrated by way of a costume float parade through the streets of the capital city Georgetown depicting various artefacts symbolic to the composite Guyanese folklore.
At the event on Sunday, customers were entertained by live Soca music while the children partook in face painting and games.
Marketing Manager of Royal Castle, Jermaine Cranmore explained the reason behind the company’s decision to host the event.
“Basically, the Royal Castle Mash Jumpstart it is for kids because it is basically a jumpstart to Mash because when I was younger, Mash was a real nice festive stuff, so it is bringing back that entire feeling to Guyana, that pre-hype up Mashramani Guyana”.
Additionally, Cranmore explained the reason for the company choosing its Sheriff Street branch to host the event.
“It is the first time Royal Castle is doing a Mash Jumpstart and this is something that we want to continue to do and it is being done at our Sheriff Street location because it is our flagship store.”
The theme for Mashramani 2020 is “Guyana Together – Reflect, Celebrate, Transform”.
