Santa Rosa man on bail for ganja possession

A 21-year-old vendor was on Friday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for narcotics possession.
It is alleged that Victura Chandra of Moruca, Region One (Barima-Waini) was caught with the drugs on January 24. The prosecution is contending that Chandra had six grams of cannabis sativa in his possession at Santa Rosa, North West District. In court on Friday, Chandra initially pleaded guilty to the charge. However, when he realised that he could be jailed for a maximum of five years, the man changed his plea to no guilty. The prosecution did not object to his pre-trial liberty of bail and this was granted in the sum of $50,000 bail. He was instructed to report to the Police every Friday until his trial. He will return to court on April 3.
