The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Thursday issued a wanted bulletin for Wayne Joseph Carlos, also called “Wayne Castello” and “Satan”, for questioning in connection with the murder of Leon Baird, which was committed between January 23, 2026, and January 25, 2026.
The 44-year-old man from Parishara Village, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu–Upper Essequibo) is accused of committing the crime at Wichabai Savannah, South Rupununi.
The charred remains of 38-year-old Leon Baird, a Rupununi tour guide from St Ignatius Village, were discovered on January 25, 2026, in close proximity to the Wichabai Ranch.
It was reported that a burnt vehicle was discovered on the eastern bank of the Rupununi River, with what appeared to be partially charred remains of a human body inside. The remains were later confirmed to be those of Baird.
However, in addition, the remains of two cattle, suspected to have been shot, were also discovered at the scene along with a knife and spent shotgun shells.
Following investigations, Ken Faria of Culvert City, Central Rupununi, a 49-year-old community relations officer, was charged in connection with the crime. He was remanded to prison by Magistrate Faith McGusty when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Baird was described as an exceptional tour guide who played a vital role in promoting Guyana’s natural beauty and enhancing visitors› experiences in the Rupununi. He had a passion for studying plants, birds, and wildlife, as well as a dedication to supporting family, friends, and visitors to the region.
Meanwhile, anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of Wayne Joseph Carlos, also called “Wayne Castello” and “Satan”, is asked to contact the Police at telephone numbers 227-1611, 226-3411, 268-2328, 911, or the nearest Police station.
