Security guard dies after being struck down by cop
A female security guard attached to a popular security service in Georgetown died after she was struck down and killed by a Police officer along the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of the University of Guyana’s Access Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Dead is 63-year-old Bridget Rodriquez of School Street, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.
Police said the woman was riding a motorcycle, proceeding east in the northern lane when she attempted to go into the southern lane at about 22:30h on Thursday.
It was at that time she collided with a motor car driven by a 20-year-old Police Constable stationed at Brickdam Police Station attached to the traffic department.
As a result of the impact of the collision, the woman was thrown onto the windscreen of the car and then onto the roadway. This resulted in her receiving major injuries about her body. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were called and Rodriquez was pronounced dead.
The body was then taken to the Lyken Funeral Home mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
Both the motorcycle and the policeman’s car were lodged to be examined by the licensing and certifying officer. A breathalyser test was conducted on the cop and no trace of alcohol was detected.
When Guyana Times visited the family of the dead woman on Friday, they were tightlipped about the accident. One of Rodrigues’ daughters told this publication that she is “confused over everything”, and cannot understand how her mother died on the spot.
On Saturday last, Shri Chandra Persaud, 73, of Lot 109 B Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was killed in an accident in the vicinity of the Russian Embassy on the Rupert Craig Highway.
Police said that based on reports, a motorcycle which was proceeding west along the highway collided with the pedestrian as he was attempting to cross the road.
Following the collision, both the rider and Persaud were picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Persaud died while receiving treatment. (G9)
