Senior Body Building Championships on tonight at the Marriott
The Guyana Amateur Body Building and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) will tonight host its Senior Body Building Championships at the prestigious Marriott Hotel in Kingston, beginning from 19:00hrs sharp.
President of the GABBFF, Coel Marks, disclosed to Guyana Times Sport that the venue was chosen because the federation is looking to add a touch of class to its flagship event of the year, while at the same time seeking to reach a wider audience.
Marks said the federation held a meeting with the athletes on Saturday, ahead of tonight’s event; and he noted: “The athletes are all dialled in and rearing to go out there. With the addition of a few overseas-based body builders, the pressure will be on the local athletes to perform.”
He also noted that all systems are in place ahead of tonight’s championships, and he urges patrons to come out and witness athletes in their prime.
More than 40 athletes will be showcased across nine (9) major categories of competition. This year will see the return of the Masters category for the over-40 competitors, and will see the likes of Lenny Sharpe and Noel Cummings competing.
There will be quality competition on show in the bantamweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavy-weight and heavyweight categories; while the highly anticipated Ms Bikini Body and Ms Body fitness competitions will be features not to miss.
Kerwin “Chisel” Clarke, reigning Mr Guyana, will be looking to defend his title, while the Mr. Physique Class is expected to provide fierce competition among the likes of old rivals Emmerson Campbell and Yannick Grimes.
Tickets costing $2500 can be purchased at the door, and patrons will have a chance to win prizes with the purchase of a ticket.
Sponsors in the Platinum category are Ghandi’s General Store, Fitness Express, Atlantic Mining, Ministry of Sports, World of Flowers, and Chung’s Global Enterprises.
While Gold sponsors are Windjammer International Hotel and Cuisine, Safe Sol, Star Party Rentals, Gizmos and Gadgets and Aruwai Resort.
