Several arrested after guns, foreign ganja found during CANU operation along Princes St

Several individuals were arrested following the discovery of over 98 pounds (lbs) of foreign ganja and five firearms with ammunition during an operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Wednesday at Princes Street, Georgetown.

CANU, in a release, stated that on the day in question, officers acting on intelligence received travelled to and conducted an operation at a residence along Princes Street, Georgetown.
During the search, approximately 86 parcels containing foreign cannabis weighing 98.3lbs, valued at around $80 million, were found. In addition, four pistols and one rifle were also discovered at the location.

As a result, the individuals who were present at the premises at the time of the operation were arrested and taken into custody.
Only on Tuesday, two men were arrested after two illegal firearms and ammunition were found during an operation at Castello Housing Scheme, West La Penitence, Georgetown.
CANU reported that officers went to the location where they intercepted two men who were at that time carrying one black bag. A .38 Special Smith & Wesson revolver, along with one live round of matching ammunition and one black 9mm Baikal Makarov pistol, was seized.
