A group of persons who attempted to attack a Police Officer after he shut down their music on Sunday evening were arrested for breach of the national curfew and noise nuisance.
Police stated that on Sunday about 23:30h, a Police Constable attached to the Reliance Police Station, East Canje, Berbice went to a residence at Cumberland Village where a motor car was playing loud music to the disturbance of residents in the area.
<<<Guyana Times>>> understands that the Police Officer ordered that the music be turned off and that the vehicle’s owner proceed to the Police Station.
But the driver, along with several persons who were gathered in the yard imbibing, put up resistance and allegedly attempted to attack the rank, thus causing him to fire a warning shot into the air.
The group of suspects then went into the yard and locked the gate.
However, Police Officers revisited the area on Monday, and several persons involved in the incident were taken into custody.
Those persons are: Phillip Edwards, 33; Waheid Edwards, 33; Anthony Edwards, 45; and Gordon Edwards, 39.
They are presently in custody for the offences of breach of curfew, failing to wear a mask, disorderly behaviour, and public insult and provocation.
Meanwhile, Edwards, who is the owner of the motor car in question, is also in custody for noise nuisance.
On Saturday last about 17:50h, the Police in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) arrested an Army rank, who is the owner of a wash bay in Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, following a report of noise nuisance.
Reports are that Police ranks responded to the noise nuisance report from an unknown caller, and went to the wash bay where they arrested the owner.
The music system was seized and lodged as an exhibit.
