Several injured in Avenue of the Republic accident

Two males and a female were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital early Saturday morning after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a canal on Avenue of the Republic. The accident occurred sometime around 05:30h.
According to reports reaching Guyana Times, the silver Toyota 212 car, bearing registration PSS 5215 was travelling on Croal Street heading towards Avenue of the Republic when the driver reportedly lost control and the vehicle ended up in a canal side of the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
One witness recounted that she was working in the area when she heard the loud impact and rushed to the scene; “I was working and all I hear is blam! I run and come and see the car in the gutter. A girl was trying to come out and the driver and another passenger at the back was seriously injured.”
This newspaper was told that the Police and Fire Service arrived on the scene shortly and began assisting public-spirited citizens who were already rescuing the victims.
While the names of the injured persons were not available up to press time, it was revealed that two of the occupants were pulled from the wrecked car in an unconscious state.
According to witnesses, the driver appeared to have fallen asleep.
