Several persons arrested for failing to wear facemasks in Region 2

COVID-19 guidelines

A number of persons were arrested in the township of Anna Regina, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), on Friday for failure to wear a facemask in the public.
The arrests came as the Joint Services in collaboration with the Regional COVID-19 Task Force ranks enforced the stipulated COVID-19 guidelines as set out by the Public Health Ministry.

Commander of G Division, Crystal Robinson stated that the mask-wearing exercise will be an ongoing task in the region and as such, persons found walking on the road without a mask will be charged, granted bail then given a date to attend court.
The region’s Commander said that masks can help prevent the spread of the virus and as such, persons should be serious. She advised that persons should also practice social distancing and hand hygiene.

Earlier this week, Former Health Minister, Dr Leslie Ramsammy said that Guyana could only get out of the pandemic if persons adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Health Ministry and by taking the COVID-19 vaccine.
He noted that each time persons leave their homes, they should be wearing a face mask and also ensure that they are following the public health guidelines, adding that those who want to make the wearing of face masks an option are making living an option.
