Guyana and West Indies fast-bowler Shamar Joseph has the need for speed. He continues to bowl in excess of 145 km/h, and his next aim is to break the 150 km/h barrier on a consistent basis.
Joseph is fresh from a player of the series performance where he claimed 11 wickets in the three-match series against Sri Lanka, and he is aiming to extend his wicket-taking form in the upcoming Test series against the same opponent next Thursday.
Joseph credited West Indies bowling coach Ravi Rampaul for his consistency.
“I just think it’s all about the consistency and the work that the analyst and Ravi (Rampaul) put in. Ravi played a big part in this series for us. The preparation that he gave to us, bowling yorkers, stick to your basics. And I think we went about well doing it,” Joseph said.
“I think my job basically is to just come at the back end, to finish well with the Yorkers. I think it’s all about muscle memory. And I enjoy it. I take it one day at a time. continue to do the work and get my body ready for the series.”
“I just think bowling quick is natural for me. I spoke to Avi [Avenesh Seetaram, team analyst] before; I said, ‘I want to get back up here. I want to get back to bowling 150 consistently.’ Seeing that tonight, it actually encouraged me to continue to put in the hard work and continue to bowl fast as possible,” the fast bowler explained.
West Indies and Sri Lanka will be in action at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua from Thursday, June 25, from 10:00h local time. This will be the start of the first of two Test matches.
