ild to safety before the flames spread throughout the wooden structure.
During interviews with residents shortly after the fire, the child’s father, 54-year-old Jeffrey Fraser, explained that he had briefly left the house and was returning when he noticed smoke and flames coming from the building.
“I see the house start catching,” Fraser said while recounting the moments before the fire intensified.
According to Fraser, the fire appeared to have started in an upstairs bedroom at the back of the house.
At the time of the blaze, the child was reportedly alone inside the building.
The blaze quickly spread to a nearby building, destroying large quantities of household items, furniture and personal belongings.
Divisional Fire Officer Clive McDonald had previously explained that firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to additional nearby structures despite challenges accessing the area because of parked vehicles along the roadway.
Residents affected by the blaze are now appealing for public assistance as they attempt to recover from the fire.
Persons wishing to assist Jeffrey Fraser and his family can do so by telephone (592) 664-0058, while Phulmattee Madramoottoo can be contacted by telephone (592) 655-6479.
