The Caribbean Poultry Association has highlighted the importance of the regional poultry industry in supporting food security and economic growth as it joined the global poultry sector in observing World Poultry Day on Sunday.
In a statement issued to mark the occasion, the association said the day serves as an opportunity to recognise farmers, workers, integrated operators, innovators and other stakeholders who contribute to keeping the Caribbean supplied with poultry products.
This year’s observance coincided with Mother’s Day, a connection the association said reflects the care, resilience and dedication that sustain both families and the poultry industry.
According to the association, the poultry sector remains one of the Caribbean’s most reliable and affordable sources of protein. It noted that the industry supports tens of thousands of jobs across farming, processing, transportation, feed production and veterinary services.
The association also said the sector plays a major role in reducing dependence on imports, strengthening rural economies and ensuring Caribbean families have access to fresh chicken and eggs produced within the region.
The statement further noted that poultry producers across the Caribbean continue to invest in innovation, while maintaining standards in animal health and food safety.
The association described the poultry industry as a key pillar of regional food security and praised stakeholders for their continued contributions to the sector.
Special recognition was also extended to mothers involved in the poultry industry, including backyard poultry keepers, commercial producers, veterinarians, processors, grain producers, feed manufacturers and administrators.
The association said the contributions of women across the industry continue to play an important role in supporting both households and regional food production.
