Sherwin Sahadeo captures C-Class title as GTTA Independence Tournament continues

The Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Independence Tournament continued at the National Gymnasium over the weekend with Sherwin Sahadeo claiming the C-Class Open Singles title on Friday evening, while several players booked places in finals and title deciders in other categories as competition intensified.
Sahadeo emerged champion of the C-Class Open Singles after a series of hard-fought victories. He first defeated Dhanesh Persaud 3-2 in the quarter-finals before edging Vibert Williams by the same margin in the semi-finals. In the final, Sahadeo outlasted Youdestir Persaud 3-2 to secure the championship.
Persaud had reached the final after defeating Abraao DeOliveira 3-1 in the quarter-finals and overcoming Kayden Meusa 3-2 in the semi-finals. Vibert Williams and Kayden Meusa were the other semi-finalists after defeating Akeem Hall and Samara Sukhai, respectively, in the last eight.

In the B-Class Open Singles competition, the field was narrowed to the semi-final stage. Malachi Moore defeated Dhanesh Persaud 3-1, Umar Percival overcame Nevaeh Clarkston 3-0, Winston Duff beat Jerone Brown 3-0, and Kayden Meusa dispatched Jaden Trotman 3-0. Colin France, Vibert Williams, Akeem Hall and Colin Wong also advanced with victories over Vivek Bassoo, Owan Wills, Abraao De Oliveira and Sherwin Sahadeo, respectively.
The semi-final pairings were set as Moore versus Percival, Duff against Meusa, France against Williams and Hall against Wong.
Action resumed on Saturday with the Under-15 Boys’ Singles event producing its finalists. Kayden Meusa advanced after defeating Vivek Bassoo 3-1, while Abraao DeOliveira secured his place in the final with a straight-sets 3-0 victory over Cristiano Jacobis. The championship match between Meusa and DeOliveira was yet to be completed.
In the Women’s Doubles knockout competition, Samara Sukhai and S Damon progressed to the final, where they were set to face A Robinson and S Barkel. Robinson and Barkel booked their place in the title match after defeating Nevaeh Clarkston and F John 3-2 in the semi-final.
The Junior Doubles knockout event also moved into the final stage. Colin Wong and Malachi Moore reached the championship match with a 3-0 semi-final win over A Garraway and A Robinson, while Akeem Hall and Kayden Meusa advanced by defeating Samara Sukhai and A Hopkinson 3-1. The final between Wong and Moore and the Hall-Meusa pairing remained to be played.
The tournament concludes today, Sunday, at the National Gymnasium with several champions still to be crowned across the remaining categories.
