The round-robin stage of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Regional Championships concluded on Friday with victories for Bishops High School A, School of the Nations, Tutorial High School and Plaisance Secondary, while playoff action across all regions is set to begin later this week.
At the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) in Georgetown, Bishops High A defeated Chases Academic 33-22 in the opening game of the Geo City regional competition. Kemol Pickering produced an outstanding all-round performance to earn Player of the Game honours with 15 points, 13 rebounds and seven steals. Jonathan Nazier supported with six points and 11 rebounds, while Eli Archer added six points and six rebounds. For Chases Academic, Sirr Sampson recorded a game-high 20 points along with 15 rebounds and four blocks in a losing effort.
The closest contest of the evening saw School of the Nations edge Bishops High B, 30-29, after overtime. The teams were locked at 29 points apiece at the end of regulation before School of the Nations secured the narrow victory. Hong Yang was named Player of the Game after scoring 13 points and grabbing four rebounds. Rasheed Burrowes contributed eight points and four rebounds, while Julian Yang chipped in with five points and four rebounds. Ethan Henry led The Bishops High B with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Tutorial High then secured a one-point victory over Brickdam Secondary, prevailing 28-27 in another tightly contested encounter. Xavier Scott earned Player of the Game honours with eight points, 10 rebounds and four blocks, while Julian Charles top-scored for Tutorial with 16 points and six steals. Brickdam’s Dontavion Denny battled hard in defeat, finishing with 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Meanwhile, in the East Coast Country Regional competition, Plaisance Secondary defeated Golden Grove Secondary 29-24. Christopher Ram led the winners with 14 points, four rebounds and five steals to claim Player of the Game honours, while Trevor James added five points and eight rebounds. Shane Archer scored 14 points for Golden Grove in a losing effort.

The scheduled match between President’s College and Hope Secondary was cancelled due to rain.
With the completion of the round-robin stage, attention now turns to the playoffs, where teams from the various regions will battle for championship honours.
The regional championships are sponsored by Edward B Beharry and Company Limited, G-Boats Inc, the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and Banks DIH Limited.
