Shields bags maiden Karibee Rice Golf Title

Former Lusignan Golf Club President (LGC) Hilbert Shields flexed his muscles outside of his official capacity to snare the inaugural Karibee Rice Open title on Saturday, July 14.

It was a star-studded event featuring a number of high-profile golfers, who commenced battle at 12:30h with the official tee-off. Thereafter, it was Shields, who maintained his grip over the competition to finish with 66/18.
The ex-Head of the LGC was closely trailed by Richard Haniff 68/10 (second); Joaan Deo 69/17 (third) and Best Net winner Nazeem Haniff 70/8 (fourth). Nazeem bagged the Best Gross Award for his 78.
Following the match, Shields, during his brief remarks. stated: “Firstly, I was very relaxed and played so well today because of the great company. I played with Messrs Clifford Reis and Mark Lashley. Secondly, being also from the Corentyne, I was determined to make a special effort to celebrate this great gesture of our sponsor – Nand Persaud Company.”
Also on hand were Honorary Consul of Malaysia to Guyana, Vic Oudit and his wife, Dawn, who assisted in the distribution of the prizes to the winners. Honorary Consul Oudit, in brief remarks, said, “I am delighted and fully in support of the development of the Club house, the course, the lawns, and the ambience of the Lusignan Golf Club, having known it for several years now.”
He continued, “In fact, I am determined to bring my friends and expose them to the great atmosphere here, and to promote the Club and golfing in Guyana. Already, one of my friends was also so impressed today that he immediately enrolled his wife and children as members of the Club.”
On hand representing Nand Persaud, the producers of Karibee Rice, was Jai Prakash, who thanked the LGC for allowing them to host such a successful tournament and was hopeful of more ventures in the near future.
