Shotgun found during Police operation in Essequibo

Police in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have immediately launched an investigation following the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun at Danielstown Backdam, Essequibo Coast.

Based on reports received, ranks were conducting a search in the area when they noticed a blue cloth case in a clump of bushes under a tree, and upon checking, they found the firearm.
It was taken to the Anna Regina Police Station, where it was lodged pending an investigation. No one has since been arrested in relation to the discovery of the shotgun.
Only a few weeks ago, Police on the West Bank of Demerara (WBD) arrested a 47-year-old man after an illegal shotgun and matching cartridges were found at his home.
The discovery was made at the suspect’s Sans Souci, Canal Number One Polder, WBD home.
A party of Policemen, acting on information received, went to the suspect’s home, and upon arrival, a search was conducted on the premises in the presence of the suspect and his wife.
It was then ranks uncovered that a table contained a hidden compartment. They then discovered within two objects made of metal and wood which appeared to be components of a firearm. Also unearthed was a transparent plastic bag containing eight cartridges.
The suspect was then cautioned, arrested, and taken to the La Grange Police Station.
