An armed robbery at Nelson Mandela Avenue and Hibiscus Street, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, on Saturday, has left a 46-year-old welder without a gold chain valued at approximately $500,000. On Sunday the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that the incident occurred at about 18:02h while the victim, of Plantation Farm, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was in front of a shop in the West Ruimveldt area.
The report indicated that the victim was approached by two men travelling on a black Honda XR motorcycle, with the pillion rider dismounting and snatching the gold chain from around the victim’s neck. A scuffle ensued, during which one of the bandits discharged two rounds in the air before escaping with the chain. The suspects fled east along Nelson Mandela Avenue. Two 9mm spent shells were recovered at the scene and lodged as evidence. CCTV footage from nearby premises is expected to assist investigators in identifying the suspects.
No arrests have been made. Investigations are ongoing.
