For the second consecutive night in the Guinness Greatest of the Street Football Championships in the West Demerara /East Bank Zone, defending champions Showstoppers trounced their opponents by a 5-0 margin at the Pouderoyen tarmac.
The latest team to face the wrath of the formidable unit was Money Team, as Hubert Pedro and Dexroy Adams helped themselves to braces. Pedro scored in the 10th and 23rd while Adams seized his chances in the 14th and 18th; Kayode
King was the other scorer in the 17th.
Meanwhile, ESPN continued their unbeaten run, as they defeated Young Ballers 1-0 via goal from Nicquan Nestor in the 5th while Gordon Grant’s goal in the 16th led Agricola to an identical victory over Golden Warriors.
Similarly, Brothers United inflicted an upset over De Kinderen with a 1-0 win after Leon Yaw made a conversion in the 10th . Two of the other three matches went to the spot for a winner, after producing goalless draws. Goal Getters won 2-1 on penalty kicks against Harmoney Ballers and Jetty won 3-2 on sudden death penalty kicks against Good Intent All-Stars. The other match of the evening saw Tajoe’s Admiral United won via walkover from West Side Ballers.
The championship continues on Thursday at the same venue while the grand finals are slated for Saturday.
The top teams are competing for a first place prize of $450,000 with second place to fourth, receiving $150,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively.
