Simextra opens duty-free store at Eugene F Correia International Airport

In a bid to grow its brand and capitalise on the economic growth that Guyana is experiencing, the Simextra Group has opened its newest duty-free store at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
Situated in the Arrival and Departure Terminal of the airport, this third store of the Simextra Group is expected to boost duty-free shopping by exposing commuters to a diverse array of products to scintillate their varied tastes, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
At the opening ceremony held on Saturday, Chief Financial Officer of the Simextra Group, Weenu Soekhoe, noted that the new location aims to help enhance travellers’ experiences, and that the group is dedicated to contributing to the growth and development of Guyana.

“As we expand our presence in the travel retail sector, our goal goes beyond providing high-quality products to our travellers; we aim to create memorable and enjoyable experiences for all visitors who walk through our doors, whether they are embarking a new journey or returning home… But our mission doesn’t stop there, by investing in travel retail sector, we are also contributing to the sub-industry as a key pillar of the nation’s economy. We believe that, by enhancing the travel experience, we are helping to attract more visitors, supporting local business and ultimately playing a role in the ongoing development and prosperity of Guyana,” he declared.
Airport Manager Phillip Lynch announced that the Eugene F. Correia International Airport is mulling plans to expand its space to cater for similar ventures, and explained that this investment is among many being implemented by the management of the airport.
“As we speak, work is on the way to construct a new car park as well as a cargo facility, and these are expected to be completed as early as 2025. Following that, the terminal-building will start; the capacity of the terminal is expected to double upon its completion. The new expanded terminal will have more floor space for both incoming and outgoing duty-free shops, which I know Simextra Group will take advantage of,” Lynch has said.
Simextra Group is a family-owned wholesale company founded in 1994 by K. Soekhoe. It retails a huge variety of alcoholic beverages at competitive prices, among other retail items. It opened its first duty-free shop at the ferry connection between Suriname and Guyana back in 2013, and has since expanded to seven stores in total, two of which are located at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) and the Corentyne River ferry terminal at Moleson Creek.
