According to the owner, Swarendra Sukhpaul, he received a phone call indicating that the building was smoking and also had a fire to it.

He said the first thing he did was to call the fire service and they hurried over to the scene. He said it took him about two minutes to get there.
“By the time I get there the fire service was there and they try to out the fire but because the water they have in the fire truck is only about 400 gallons water so they had to make like about six trips to get water.”
Sukhpaul said the firefighters tried their best to curtail the blaze.
However, the entire building was destroyed.
The building was not in use at the time. The businessman said that he last visited the building a week ago and everything was intact.
Sukhpaul believes that the fire was of an electrical nature.
“For a few weeks in Corriverton we are having a problem with high and low voltage and we have been getting frequent blackouts.”
Sukhpaul recounted that two weeks ago a fire started at his Corriverton gas station but fortunately a firefighter who was at a supermarket opposite the gas station rushed to their assistance and used a fire extinguisher to put it out. Sukhpaul said he then called GPL and they were able to restore power and said that there was a slack connection.
“Friday night and yesterday the current was going on and off,” he told the media.
He explained that the nine-bedroom premise served as a guest house for contractors and Government officials who are required to be in the district for an extended period.
Sukhpaul is trying to estimate his losses. However, he noted that all of the rooms were self-contained. (G4)
